Song Meanings

The Party Scene
- “The Party Scene” was the first track on the album. Alex thought he was being clever by introducing the album with the idea of “staying seventeen,” which was later brought full circle at the end of the album by “The Girl’s A Straight-Up Hustler” with “forever seventeen.”
- Lullabies is about Alex’s brother.
- Running From Lions. Apparently, at a party or such some time, Alex drew a lion on a girl’s arm. Later, when he was trying to get out of a situation with this girl, he wrote this song.
- The Girl’s A Straight-Up Hustler complement to “The Party Scene”. The song is written about a “fake” girl who led on a guy with various one-night stands.

Put Up or Shut Up
- Coffee Shop Soundtrack is about a relationship with a married woman, possibly a teacher. Alex wrote a blog about it. He reluctantly told that the song was based on an affair he had with a married woman and that they regularly met in a coffee shop.
- Jasey Rae is about a real person named Jasey. Alex wrote the song as an apology to her.

So Wrong, It’s Right
- Holly (Would You Turn Me On?) is about the city, not an actual girl. “Holly would…” is a play on “Hollywood.”
- Dear Maria (Count Me In) is about an old friend from high school who had become a stripper.
- Remembering Sunday was written while Alex was on a plane ride home from visiting a girl. Apparently, the visit didn’t go as planned.
- Vegas is about the same girl from Remembering Sunday.
- Stay Awake is about Peter Pan. Alex has also described it as a conversation with himself, similar to a conversation between Wendy and Peter. Sort of his inner child vs. the part of him that knows he has to grow up.
- Come One, Come All was inspired when Alex was stuck in traffic and the radio was playing sucky songs.
